Spinners

Spinner is a simple and joyful work. It's about nothing more than the joy of movement. It's made from four circles, divided in sectors, and mounted on rotating shafts. However, each of the circles is also coupled with a torsion spring, like in a clock.

Because each of the circles has a different size and mass, the mass/spring combination will want to oscillate in a different frequency. Fiddling with the sculpture in the right frequency will allow you to activate (engineers say 'excite') each of the circles in turn.

Given a push, the circles, springs and rotating frame carry out an oscillating dance, exchanging energy with each other until finally friction brings them to a stop and they can be set in motion again. Different starting conditions result in different motions. It’s never quite the same.

You are not just invited to participate, you are required to. Art collectors need never be bored again. Fidget spinner is an edition of three, in three different anodised colours: Red, Blue and Green.
