The Moons form a cycle of three Moons (Full Moon, High Moon and Low Moon). While working quite seriously with rectangular patterns and grids, the Moons happened during a break in the studio, playing around in Photoshop.
I was quite seriously investigating the moiré effect. It occurs when similar, but not identical, patterns overlap. Interference produces dynamic images that occur in the ‘in between space’ between the two grids. The Moon isn’t really there, and doesn’t really move: it’s all an illusion, made in your visual pathways.
The image I made might have been a petri dish under the microscope, or raindrops in a puddle, but it seems it most desired to become a Moon. Once that had been settled, it made sense to have the Moon rise and set, as well. This is how the the cycle of 3 came about.
